Covid-19: Asda’s helping hand

Since 1 March, Asda stores across the UK have donated the equivalent of more than 800,000 meals to charities and community groups to help those affected by the coronavirus pandemic. This includes the Portlethen store, which has donated 1655 meals to support charities and community groups in the area.

The company says the donations of the food, which is fresh, in-date and good quality, are made through the FareShare Go service, which partners the Scottish stores with charities and community groups.

The food is surplus as it can no longer be sold, either because it has damaged packaging or has a short shelf-life, and often includes bakery products, eggs, fruit and vegetables.

The products are collected by charities and distributed, helping vulnerable people and saving food waste.
