About Me

2007 Ian Mollison (AC)

From 2007 until 2022 I was the Liberal Democrat party councillor for North Kincardine, which covers the communities of Newtonhill, Portlethen, Muchalls, Chapelton, Netherley and the surrounding rural area.

I have lived in Newtonhill since 1974, moving here from Paisley to work on the Evening Express as a sub editor. I left in 1990 to join Royal Mail as their communications manager in Aberdeen. I also worked as a freelance on Scotland on Sunday. In 2004 I was made redundant by Royal Mail, and had another career change, joining Nicol Stephen, the MSP for Aberdeen South. In 2007 I stood for my local ward on Aberdeenshire Council and was fortunate enough to be elected. When Nicol stepped down in 2011 on being elevated to the House of Lords, I joined the staff of Alison McInnes, MSP for North East Scotland. In 2016 Alison left the Scottish Parliament and I concentrated on being a full-time councillor.

I did not stand for re-election in 2022, and my seat was taken by fellow Liberal Democrat Mel Sullivan.
