Winter road treatment costs council £7m

BBC Scotland is reporting that dealing with the bad winter weather cost Aberdeenshire Council £7 million. The council had budgeted £4.3m for gritting, snow clearing, and other winter work.
A report (from which the BBC gets its information) will be going to Thursday’s infrastructure services committee. There are obviously lessons to be learned. You can read the council report by following this link and scrolling down to item 8 on the agenda: http://committees.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/committees.aspx?commid=495&meetid=19014
You will see that the council has used approximately 61,000 tonnes of salt on roads and pavements, compared to an average winter when the council can use 40,000 to 45,000 tonnes of salt.
