Concerns over masterplan

The masterplan for housing to the south of Newtonhill came before the Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee this afternoon.

A decision was deferred so that the developers could address continuing concerns about the proposals impinging on the green belt and about how farm vehicles would safely pass through the development to access the farm to the south.

The deferral was won on an seven to three vote, with the minority happy with the proposals as they stand. All four North Kincardine ward councillors supported the deferral.

Ian, I feel the word Masterplan is being used in a wrong context. It is an ad hoc add-on to housing in a village that was never planned for or is currently wanted by residents or desired in my view for environmental reasons. There has never been a Masterplan for Newtonhill or Muchalls. All the council have ever done is allow piece meal add-ons to an existing fishing village with little to no regards for infrastructure. It is about time this creeping populisation of scattered country villages in Kincardine is stopped before they all become shades of Laurencekirk- the lay-by on the A90. Chapelton is the approved New Town- so build that first before anything else is done – Including population control.

The word masterplan is used in a planning context and simply refers to how a particular area will be developed. You area right that there has never been a masterplan for all of Newtonhill – or Portlethen for that matter. So I would with agree with you from that point of view.

However there has been investment in infrastructure. A flyover was built, as was a new primary school. Newtonhill Road was widened. No station though. Yet.
