Makeover for mill path

Aberdeenshire Council has upgraded the right of way from Newtonhill to the Elsick Mill (and onwards to Cammachmore). It was muddy underfoot and the tree canopy made it a gloomy place. The path is also used by some children to go to Newtonhill primary school, and it is part of the core path network. The photograph is from Newtonhill Village Association. The council is doing us proud.

Good work guys! Next job, tidy up underpass from newtonhill school under a90 to cammachmore? Not a big job but could save a life.

This would be more complicated than you would think. Land ownership would have to be established – and it is not an established right of way, unlike the mill path. It goes under the A90 which is the responsibility of Transport Scotland. I have previously contacted them, and they do not propose to progress this. They did a survey of pedestrian traffic between Cammachmore and Newtonhill, and ruled it out. The Chapelton developers have expressed an ambition to link Newtonhill and Chapelton via the underpass, but that is far into the future.
