SNP/Labour propose council tax rise

An across-the-board 2.5% council tax rise is being proposed at next Thursday’s meeting of the full Aberdeenshire Council. This is on top of the Scottish Government imposed increases for homes in band E and above. The figures below include both increases.
The recommendation comes from Alan Wood, the council’s head of finance, however the decision on whether to implement it will be made by councillors.
The report – which can be viewed at http://committees.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/committees.aspx?commid=1&meetid=18344, contains details of the council budget for the coming year, and there is also a recommendation to increase council house rents by 3.75% from 3 April.

Well I imagine my comments may receive mixed responses. However, I feel I owe it to myself at least to stand up and be counted. I was born in 1949, in Teesside, brought up by my mother, after her divorce. I was advised to try for a white collar job, but going a mine or working in a shipyard was also a worthy job. Anyway got a job as a draughtsman, well the rest is I finally worked for Shell for 37 years and was very well rewarded. I became quite senior and also benefited from a final Salary pension. I live in al lovely place ( kirkton of Maryculter . So I paid a lot of tax @ 40%. I spent a lot of time away from family. So yes true I am “well off” as they say. When I die they will take more from me in “death tax”☠️. So to the point I did not inherit this money I worked hard for it. So how much will my council tax go up …..£583.00 per year. So no sympathy required …but like my hero Socrates would ask ……” is this fair and just” Austin
