Details were unveiled today about work due to start shortly on permanent repairs to potholes in Portlethen, Newtonhill and Muchalls.
The repairs should be carried out by saw cutting around the road defects to achieve a vertical edge, removing the defective road surface material, sweeping the debris, and applying a tack coat on the base and the vertical edges.
Hot bituminous material should be laid either by hand or by mechanical means and compacted using a roller. Finally, an anti-skid over-banding should be applied to all joints to prevent the ingress of surface water.
Defects that are to be repaired as part of this contract are being highlighted in yellow/white paint along the following streets.

Hunter Construction will be carrying out the work on behalf of Aberdeenshire Council. The plan is to start in Newtonhill in three weeks, weather permitting.

What about the hole surrounding the manhole cover in the middle of the road
by 38 St Michaels Road, it has been there way before lock down but doesn’t appear to have any yellow /white markings around it.
The yellow markings are being renewed in preparation for the work being carried out. However if this manhole cover isn’t marked up, it could be that’s because it is the responsibility of whichever utility it belongs to. To whom does the manhole belong? Happy to ask the Roads Service about it, if you can give me that information. Lastly, have you reported it to the council?
How about you and the council take a car ride down to Downies village, just make sure it’s daylight so you can see the potholes. If it’s dark and you don’t know the road you might need a repair to your exhaust/suspension.
The potholes have been reported many times during this year, however I do not see any mention of repairs in that area.
The contract in question covers roads within the built-up areas of Portlethen, Newtonhill and Muchalls. Rural roads are being dealt with separately by the Roads Service. For example, I am told by a resident that Findon Road has just been repaired. I can offer a reassurance that I have driven along the road, and have raised the issues with the Roads Service.
Downies road is in need of serious repair, why is this not on the list

Why is Fern Drive included but not Bracken Road which is in far worse condition?
The Roads Service drew up the contract … officers have not gone into detail about why they included some roads and not others. It is an operational decision, not a process that includes councillors.
It won’t be the only repairs taking place. The Roads Service will also be fixing potholes. The contract is to help catch up.
